Fully vaccinated travelers will benefit from the controlled quarantine division almost 24 hours earlier than anticipated.
Starting July 5 at 12:01 a.m. Eastern Time, fully vaccinated travelers will not have to isolate themselves for 14 days or complete a day-8 test requirement. Also, those entering by air will not have to visit a government-approved hotel to await their on-arrival test results.
As of August 9, 2021, 12.01 AM, full vaccinated US Citizens or Permanent Residents who are living in US, will allow non-essential travel, given the series of vaccination is accepted in Canada and the travelers met other requirements including pre-arrival testing within 72 hours.
The requirements and conditions remains the same for unvaccinated or partial vaccinated travelers.
The Government of Canada is planning to allow entry of fully vaccinated travelers from all over the world on September 7, 2021, if the situation remains favorable. The travelers will need to be vaccinated at least 14 days before their travel date among other conditions.
Fully vaccinated travelers coming before that time will not benefit from the new rules. The exception was originally going to begin at 11:59 p.m. Eastern on July 5.

Guidelines for fully vaccinated travelers
Canada’s border patrol issued a list of some criteria for how travelers can profit from the decreased public health measures. There are three critical points:
- Be eligible to enter Canada. Indicating you are a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, temporary foreign worker, family member, an international student going to an accredited school, and others.
- Be fully vaccinated. It would be best if you had the complete series of vaccines or a blend of approved vaccines in Canada that includes Pfizer-BioNTech (Comirnaty, tozinameran, BNT162b2), Moderna (mRNA-1273), AstraZeneca/COVISHIELD (ChAdOx1-S, Vaxzevria, AZD1222) & Janssen/Johnson & Johnson (Ad26.COV2.S)
- Moreover, it would be best if you had taken your last dose at least 14 days before landing in Canada.
- Satisfy all other criteria, such as presenting proof on pre-arrival with a valid COVID-19 test and submit various other critical information through the ArriveCAN app.
- Submitting information to ArriveCAN
There will be a further update to the ArriveCAN app beginning July 5 in the Google Play Store and App Store. It can also be opened on web browser. Fully vaccinated travelers must use the latest version to upload their proof of vaccination. Those who can’t do it themselves can enlist friends and family members to do it on their side, the government states.
Documents need to be either in English or French. If not, travelers will be required to provide a certified translation in either of the official languages.
The government has used this app during the pandemic to help travelers and border officers interact.
- Travel constraints remain in place
Those who are not completely vaccinated are still subjected to the same rules. They need to enter the border with a compulsory 14-day quarantine plan and total testing requirements. For non-vaccinated travelers from CRS express entry, indicates pre-arrival, day-eight tests, and on-arrival. Air travelers will need to be ready for the results of their on-arrival test at a government-approved hotel.
Canada’s border restrictions were extended to July 21. Travelers are still not permitted to come to Canada. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has suggested the government could elevate more conditions in the weeks to arrive once more people are fully vaccinated.
- Before you travel to Canada
You will need to plan your quarantine before arriving in Canada if you do not satisfy the entry requirements for fully vaccinated travelers.
Within 72 hours before landing in Canada, you must take a COVID-19 test. You must also register in advance for your COVID-19 test before exiting the airport.
You must download the ArriveCAN mobile app. You must register the following details into the application:
- Your quarantine plan;
- Your 14-day travel history;
- Your contact and travel information;
- Your proof of vaccination in either English or French.
- Confirmation of a negative COVID-19 test result or a positive result took between 14 and 90 days before travelling.
- a COVID-19 symptom self-assessment; and
- Bring your papers with you, including a digital or paper copy of proof of vaccination.
The ArriveCAN mobile application is open for download on the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store.
If you do not have a smartphone or do not have data while travelling, you can insert the required information on the ArriveCAN website and bring a printed copy or screenshot.
- At the Canada border
When you land in Canada, you may be asked to provide data and documents, such as a negative COVID-19 test taken within 72 hours and evidence of complete vaccination.
As you near the border officer, make sure you have the ArriveCAN receipt ready on your phone. You may be asked to show this certificate to the officer.
You will also have to satisfy eligibility and health screening questions as well as inquiries about your vaccination.
Where testing services are open upon arrival, you will have to complete your COVID-19 test on-site unless you will be asked to accumulate a home test kit to use when you land at your final destination.
If you are presenting symptoms of COVID-19, or if you are found not to be excluded from the travel constraints, you must comply with the instructions given to you by the government agent.
- After you arrive in Canada
If you are excluded from the travel restrictions, are not presenting any virus symptoms, and are fully immunized, you will not be required to stop over at a government-approved hotel. Furthermore, you will not be required to quarantine, or take an additional test on the eighth day after arrival.
Canada does not have an authorized vaccine for children under 12 years old. Children travelling to Canada are required to quarantine for 14 days when they get home. The children are not required to stay at a hotel for quarantine.
If you cannot get immunized for health reasons, you will still want to quarantine and take a COVID-19 test on the eighth day. This refers to anyone over the age of five.
If you didn’t complete your COVID-19 test upon arrival and received a house test kit instead, complete it with the concerned authorities and follow all the instructions to avoid delay, contamination. Should your test result return as positive, you will need to quarantine and isolate yourself from others.
